If you were going for a weekend getaway (adults only) from the DC area...

where would you go? I need to narrow this down. 

 

This would be January. Driving. 

 

In one direction I've got NYC (would do the bus for this). 

 

In another direction Williamsburg is an idea. I'm thinking there won't be much for us in Williamsburg at that time.

 

Dh would probably like urban, little bookstores, maybe a show. 

 

I also thought Baltimore could be cool, although I keep thinking dh won't be able to eat -- at least not things I think of when I think Baltimore (celiac and shellfish allergies). 

 

If you are up for it, I need help starting this brainstorm.

Virginia Beach. We used to have a timeshare there and sometimes went in the winter. You won't be able to swim at the beach, but it is still nice to hang out there. Another possibility: Rehoboth Beach, DE.

I second Rehoboth Beach. The place to stay is The Bellmoor Inn & Spa. Super nice combo of a B & B and a hotel. B & B's don't always give enough privacy. This Inn gives great privacy. Has both an "everyone" pool and an adult pool -- and a neat hot tub.

 

It's an easy block or so from the beach. If I recall, a very nice breakfast buffet is included. Plus they do an afternoon tea with cookies. It was also super elegant.

 

Rooms are fairly standard. Nice, but not crazy-nice.

 

The lobby is gorgeous with it's own library with books and newspapers. Fun to just sit and read. There was a game room for the kids, but we saw very few kids. The pool was empty when we visited.

 

I miss Rehoboth like crazy.
