Favorite human body book? (5th grade-ish)

Recommended Posts

I am not sure how old your daughter is that you're asking for, but some of our favorites are:

Dorling Kindersley (DK) Human Body books - there are several good ones to pick from: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_13?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=dk+human+body&sprefix=DK+Human+body%2Caps%2C141

Usborne Internet-Linked Introduction to Genes and DNA

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_13?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=usborne+genes+and+dna&sprefix=Usborne+Genes%2Cstripbooks%2C142&rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Ausborne+genes+and+dna

Exploring the History of Medicine, The Genesis of Germs, Body by Design and Building Blocks in Life Science. There is also a helpful-looking homeschooling guide called Advanced Pre-Med Studies. This looks like something your daughter would really enjoy! :hurray:

David Macauley's How We Work is good for that age. The illustrations are pencil drawings.

I remember the reproduction pages being blunt, but fine for my current 5th grader.

Maybe I'll hold off for a bit.... I picked 5th grade because that's her reading / understanding level.  She's actually only eight. ;)

Thank you though for the warning AND the suggestion!!

Thank you!

I was able to find a cool Dover coloring book too! :)

I have a young one fascinated by the human body too:)

I know you are looking for books, but if you want a very fun and inexpensive bday prezzie in the same theme you must check out the Human Biology CD/DVD by Peter Weatherall. You can order his entire math and science set from his website for about $20, but the human biology one is fantastic!

It is AP level material in some cases, yet set to hilarious catchy tunes that even my 5-year old sings and loves. The blood song I am linking is one of her favorites and describes how hemoglobin carries oxygen and much more:)
