AspenSong
Would anyone be willing to share favorite adult books and resources that YOU have read or used in order to better guide your children through U.S. history? Thank you for any suggestions!
Momling
A few ideas from my 7th graders U.S. history studies -- If you want entertainment and don't have a lot of time, try Crash Course U.S. history on you tube. For a fun interesting read, I enjoyed Sarah Vowells "The Wordy Shipmates. " about the first European colonists. PBS American Experience makes some great documentaries too. Otherwise there's no reason why you can't grab a U.S. History textbook and jump in. We've used American Odyssey by k12.
SilverMoon
If you don't mind something as fat as SWB's high school history books, Paul Johnson's A History of the American People is pretty good. :) Lies My Teacher Told Me by Loewen is a good one for adults too.
strawberryjam
Someone recommended "Lies My Teacher Told Me", and also the "Great Courses" on American History (I think it had the word Skeptic in the title).
Tanaqui
I enjoyed A People's History of the United States (or whatever the exact title is) by Zinn. Working my way now through A Different Mirror. And yes, Lies My Teacher Told Me. But maybe it'd be better to fill in specific gaps?
Vida Winter
The Great Courses US History set is quite good. I watched it with my high school student so we could discuss the lectures.
