Switching to Math U See for Pre algebra

My daughter is finishing SM 5a and I am looking at our options for what to use after 6 a&b. I was thinking about Math U See pre algebra since she loves understanding the whys behind the math instead of just memorizing the hows. What are our other options? Has anyone else started Math U See this late in the game?

Thanks!

You might look at the placement test for MUS's prealg to make sure she's not beyond it. It's an unusual prealg course that does a lot of hole patching after their extreme mastery elementary set. It would be a step backward after Singapore 6. Another poster here uses MUS alg/geo for prealg after Horizons 1-6, which has a similar scope to Singapore.

Some other options could be Horizons prealg, Lial's prealg (old editions are dirt cheap on Amazon), or perhaps even Art of Problem Solving's prealg.

I don't really see Math U See as being a good fit after Singapore. Why not just continue with DM 7 + 8 -- that would get you through pre-algebra and algebra, and then you wouldn't have to think about math for a few years.

Here's a long thread about pre-algebra that might be good reading. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/342798-pre-algebra-fence-straddlers-master-thread/?hl=%20pre

MUS Pre-Algebra is a strange level. It is really not at all standard pre-algebra. MUS integrates a lot of pre-algebra into Epsilon and Zeta. It is really more of a catch all. It covers everything they haven't covered in elementary that normally is covered. There is some Pre-Algebra there too.

We used MUS for elementary math and I recommend their elementary curriculum, but while we tried their high school maths, we ended up switching for multiple reasons. I would not switch from Singapore to MUS at Pre-Algebra. I'm not sure what other program is good at teaching the whys of math at that level though to give you a different recommendation.
