happycc
Does anyone know if this is a prealgebra course? I was thinking of having my girls do Derek Owens Prealgebra Course. Would this be too easy/too hard or Goldilocks just right right after Math In Focus Course2? Here is a link of what they cover for grade 7/course 2 http://www.hmhco.com/~/media/sites/home/education/global/pdf/scope-and-sequence/mathematics/elementary/math-in-focus/mif_grade6-8_scope_and_sequence.pdf?la=en but not sure how it corresponds with Derek Owens course. wapiti
Have you looked at the table of contents for DO prealgebra and compared it to courses 2 and 3? I would print out the DO syllabus and then write down which course (2 or 3) covers each topic and in what chapter, using the on-line tables of contents for the actual books rather than just the scope and sequence. It looks like MiF is organized to fit common core, in that grade 8/course 3 is a mix of what would be prealgebra topics and also a few topics that were previously algebra 1.
SparklyUnicorn
If they did/are doing well with the MIF, I don't think a pre-a course would be necessary.
happycc
Oh i just wanted them to take an online class in math prior to high school. Want to be sure they have their basic skills down before high school and they seem to really respond well to online classes. It holds them accountable. happycc
Well I am not sure if they are doing well in the class because it is just me handing them the textbook and telling them to do a lesson a day and they correct it with the teacher's correction. I am in no position to teach them right now because it is starting to be beyond me and also because I have the little ones to deal with. I feel bad about that but it is what it is and that is why I was thinking an online class would be perfect for them and having someone else correct their work and give them feedback. If you think that the Prealgebra Derek Owens is not necessary what about the Prealgebra AOPS program for the summer before 8th grade?
