Nicole M
Bottom line, my son did not pass the reading comprehension section of the entrance exam for the local community college. We were shocked. He has consistently tested very well on reading comprehension, way above grade level, on his Iowa tests. What was different about this test is that the reading selections were very short, and he ran into vocabulary that he did not recognize, and he didn't feel he had enough context to extrapolate the meanings. Also, he was super tired, having worked 6 days running prior to the test. In general, he is anxious about tests, and his results can be wildly inconsistent, very, very high or very, very low. I really do not have any doubt that he could handle the work at the CC. What can we do to prepare for a second round of this reading comprehension test? We reviewed all the reading comprehension problems in a test prep book we have, but he got all those correct. Are there online problems we could review together, before he goes in again? We have an SAT prep book, and have gone over the test taking strategies in that. Any advise? Thanks so much!
Kareni
Hey there, Nicole! Here's a link to the Accuplacer test site. It has sample questions. ACCUPLACER® Here's a site with some test taking strategies: Amy’s Calm Confident Test Taking Program. Hopefully it will have something of use.
