craftymama
If you were going to study WWI and were lucky enough to be in Europe while doing so, what are some things you would consider "must see" field trips?
Sebastian (a lady)
Verdun including Fort Doumont and walking the preserved trench areas. Ypres. The Somme I wasn't a big fan of the museum in Caen. The collection was good but commentary was frustrating in its tone. Some of the private museums and trench recreations in Ypres and the Somme were very good. Imperial War Museum. Including Gassed by Sargent. The guide books by Major and Mrs Holt are really helpful for battlefield touring.
cjthedog64
This tour of Flanders Fields. http://travellingcalavera.com/2014/04/21/battlefield-tour-flanders-fields-quasimodo/ A full day, and I learned more about WWI than I ever learned in school, and I loved history. The man who gives the tour is a walking encyclopedia. My son is 8.5 and got a whole lot from the day.
