rubyslippers
My daughter did Saxon 5/4 last year and we started this year testing through the first part of Saxon 6/5. I noticed it looked like a lot of review, so I gave her the placement test for 7/6 and she passed it without a problem. Should I skip this year and move ahead to 7/6? Has anyone done anything like that?
bethben
I've always heard that the placement tests are not for current Saxon users. I have my ds going into 6/5 and there is a LOT of work with fractions. He did not encounter much of that in 5/4. Unless your daughter has done a lot with fractions outside of the Saxon 5/4 book (adding, subtracting, division, multiplication with and without common denominators), I would not skip it. rubyslippers
All of the fraction stuff is in the 7/6 book also. But you make a good point. I'll keep looking at them both. Thank you!!
kiana
No. The placement tests can give falsely high results for students who have been using Saxon. Testing through is fine. There are 23 tests, right? So if she takes one a day and aces them all, it'll take less than 5 weeks to finish 6/5 and get to the beginning of 7/6. If she doesn't ace them all, well, you know where to start doing the lessons in 6/5.
