Halcyon
we moved here from NYC about 4 years ago. We moved to Martin County, north of Palm Beach. It's a nice community, near the beach, activities for the kids. It's not New York, of course, and the transition was very hard for me. But we've adjusted. We don't have too many issues with alligators, but bobcats and bufo frogs are an issue. HS-ing is easy--we are enrolled in an umbrella school but we are probably going to switch to regular homeschoolers this year. There isn't a ton of diversity in the homeschool community where we live. Mostly faith-based groups, which I haven't joined despite being Christian. That might have to change this year, and there just aren't a lot of other options. The weather is HOT HOT HOT in the summer, upper 90's where we live, but beautiful in the winter. Housing costs where we live are higher than other parts of Florida, but not terrible. Renting is quite challenging but not impossible. The beach is not as beautiful as up north--there are litterbugs here, which baffles me--but we enjoy it. There isn't a TON of cultural diversity and my kids don't have one black friend, which bothers me. There is also more class stratification here.
