Momling
So my 12 yr old is in the process of getting braces and a palate expander this week. She's also got an appointment at the oral surgeon for extraction of her first molars (baby teeth) and exposure and bracketing of her canines so that they can eventually be pulled into place. Anyone been through this? I know it's not uncommon, but I don't know anyone personally who's had it done. They've been watching the teeth for years, but they're getting worse. I feel really terrible for her. She's not happy about the orthodontia at all. Thoughts? Commiseration?
JonesinIndiana
I've never had it done but it is faily routine. I've seen many adults who did not get it fixed as a child and it becomes an expensive problem later in life. It's better to do it as a child because the adult canines can be retrieved from the palate; as an adult the teeth are usually fused to the bone. Follow the post-op instructions and she should be fine. :)

Momling
Hah!!!! I totally missed that ambiguous title. Perhaps "impacted eye teeth"?? Apparently it's an east-west coast dialect thing, like "pop" and "soda".
