Mom2jnb
Good Evening, It looks as if my DH and I will end up moving to TX. He is originally from TX and moved up here to MI about 10 yrs ago. I realize that one of my requirements for TX homeschooling is TX history. Does anyone have a good suggestion for text and resources? MI history was natural for me....for one..I knew it....secondly, I didn't pull my son home until 5th grade so he had already been taught most of it. Thank you in advance for your help, Alison
TexasRachel
You don't actually have to teach TX history. It's not a requirement. If you want to, I think you could always get something from currclick.com. I know I saw something there once that looked interesting. Julie in Austin
You don't have to specifically teach it. But: where will you be in Texas? There are so many museums and memorials and living history farms, etc., that it is a great 'hands-on' topic.
Mom2jnb
It is looking like we are going to either be in Corpus Christi or the Houston Area....possibly Victoria.....depends where he gets his job. Alison
shalom22
The best Texas History Museum that I have seen so far is the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. http://www.thestoryoftexas.com/ We live in Houston, which has some great museums, but the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum is much better. TexasRachel
Well I live near Corpus so "Hi" maybe-soon-to-be neighbor. :D Corpus and Victoria both have homeschool groups. We love Texas. Hopefully you will too.
Mom2jnb
Hi Rachel, My DH interviewed with Oxy last week. We are praying it will work out for us. He said it is beautiful....I will keep you posted. :) Thank you for your help, Alison
teamturner
http://statehistory.net/ The above website sells state history curriculum for every state. I haven't used it but a friend of mine is using it this coming school year. It does have Christian content. And as many have already stated, Texas is a very free homeschooling state. We are not required to show anyone what we teach or show records of anykind. Welcome, in advance, to the Lone Star State!
