Shellydon
I am trying to decide if I should update my Core 5 to the new Core F. I would need to buy the new IG and 10-12 books to update.

Julie of KY
If you already own the old core 5, I'd just look at the list of new books and see if any books sound interesting and then just add them in or swap for a book you don't like as well. This is what I've done with my old cores. I don't see any point in replacing good readers or read-aloud with different good readers and read-alouds. I look more carefully at any new history books and decide if it will add something more.
SebastianCat
Will you need a new copy of the Eastern Hemisphere Explorer (I think that's what it's called)? I'm pretty sure SL has updated that to their own notebooking pages, and simplified the assignments. That would be my biggest factor with Core F specifically. When I use an older Core that doesn't require consumables, I generally don't update the IG or buy new books. My line of thinking is, "If it was good enough for one child ___ years ago, what makes it not OK now?" I do, however, pre-read everything and do swap out books from time to time.
