Free Root Study Resources

Recommended Posts

I am working on new phonics/spelling DVDs based on the co-op class I normally teach, it is a 10 week class that includes root study.  I use Marcia Henry's Words and love it, but wanted free resources for my DVD, I will have a fun bingo game to post eventually with the 32 Greek and 32 Latin roots I have selected from these two books, but wanted to share the 2 best sources of Latin and Greek roots I found in the meantime, both free online with Google Books:

1.  The Spelling Book by William Draper Swan, 1848.  Roots start on page 94.

2. A Study of English Words by Jessie MAcMillan Anderson, 1897.

The 2nd also has a few Anglo Saxon roots and some interesting things if you like language study.  The first is also a decent spelling book if you're looking for something free and fairly usable, although there are several more homeschooling friendly things that I like for fairly inexpensive prices.
