Wendi
We need a new world atlas! The one we have is not detailed enough. We need to be able to see, for example, rivers and mountains, as well as political boundaries. Any suggestions? Wendi
magistramom
National Geographic (contains the basic political and physical maps as well as many others including demographics, climate, manufacturing, and so on). We also purchased a HUGE (24" x 18") atlas at our local Costco for a rock bottom price of $10. It is highly detailed but the kids prefer the NG version as it is easier to handle. Kissy
We have a Rand McNally world atlas that my son loves. http://www.amazon.com/McNally-Schoolhouse-Intermediate-World-Atlas/dp/0528934600/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218599949&sr=1-
sagira
The Kingfisher one is supposed to be really good. They have a children's one and one for older grades.
In The Great White North
We have Goode's World Atlas. It shows rivers, mountains and cities. It also has rainfall, temperature patterns, a chart of the time zones, etc
