michaeljenn
I am trying to finish gathering my 11th grade daughter's curriculum together after pulling her from public school last week. I am stuck on English/literature. I would love to hear what everyone is doing!! Jennifer
Kendall
I don't know that I will have any suggestions, but it would probably help me and others if you would list what she has done and what her strengths/weakness are.
michaeljenn
She has been in public school up until this point. She said she needs help with general writing and writing essays from literature.
1Togo
Bravewriter's "Help for High School" and IEW's "Windows to the World" in the fall, and then something for timed essays -- Bravewriter class or IEW's Advanced Essays in the spring. Mom22ns
I use Excellence in Literature for high school English. However, it doesn't have much writing instruction. It does have writing assignments, with instructions, a sample, and a grading rubric. If her writing is really weak, you might want to pair it with more writing instruction. Candid
Read great literature, buy Susan's talk called "a plan for teaching writing" (its in the store that sponsor this forum) I suggest you get the middle school and high school talks and if needed giver her a rapid course in the middle school outlining skills. Then, write, write, write. Okay, I admit, I cheat, I am lazy and use Tapestry of Grace for our lit analysis. It is as good and in depth as what I had in college in lit classes.
