After FLL4....?

Does anyone here know whether there will be any further grammar materials from Peace Hill Press after FLL 4? We've come to the end of FLL4 and in preparing for the coming year I've been looking at our options for grammar - either we wait or buy something else. If there is another series/level in their program that will be coming soon I'd rather not buy anything else!

Hake Grammar and Writing! But you can skip the writing bit, if you like. It can be independent.

Here is the link to CBD:

And this one in Rainbow Resource:

Just very well done.

Another option is Bob Jones English. My guys are using the Distance Learning option but it is easy to teach yourself, too. It is a bit $$$, though and teacher-intensive.

You are also going to get lots of suggestions for Rod and Staff. We could not stand the religiousness, copying, and over kill on diagramming. Lots of people use it on a white board or orally. I think that takes away from part of its effectiveness. Grammar is, after all, written.

One more is Voyages in English. It is also $$$. Very public school in feel. From looking at the exhaustive samples, there doesn't seem to be much that is new each year.

You can jump in at grade level for all the programs I listed EXCEPT R&S. That one needs to be started at 5th grade because the higher books do not have as much review as 5 does. Keep in mind R&S squishes loads of grammar into 9 yrs worth of books. Those are dense books!

And I know the feeling of wanting to just quit grammar. Keep going, the results are worth it. If you cannot stand to teach another year, get Hake 6 and have your child do the work, show you they did it, and correct the work themselves. You copy the tests off and sit back. Oh, and I let my boys write in the Hake books. There is plenty of room.

Hake is good, but not really anything like the fll series, in my opinion. I haven't found anything quite like it. I wish more levels were coming out soon, but the priority right now is her writing series I believe.

Some like Growing with Grammar. It was too fill in the blank-ish for me, though. There is always Voyages in English. Great program, but a bit pricey for some. BJU English is a good choice and it also includes writing. It is VERY teacher intensive, though, and you would definitely need the teacher manual. Abeka is also a good choice. Cheaper than Voyages, and less teacher intensive than BJU. There is also a writing series, that includes some grammar, called Essentials in Writing. I have never used it, but it might be worth a look see at it. :)

What about taking a year off, and using Susan's writing series WWS ?

To answer your question, SWB was working on a middle school grammar series, called Advanced Language Lessons, but it has been shelved indefinitely, while she works on the Writing With Skill middle school writing series. I've read that she feels there are already good grammar options out there and the market is more in need of a middle school writing program.

SWB recommends Rod & Staff for grammar in WTM. In addition to the other grammar programs mentioned already, I also see Easy Grammar, Analytical Grammar, and KISS Grammar mentioned frequently.

Thanks! This was what I was looking for - some idea of whether or not there will be a FLL 5 (or its equivalent). We're going curriculum shopping tomorrow and I'll be looking over our options then. I just didn't want to buy anything else if FLL was being continued!
