Coco_Clark
The reversals thread got me thinking. I am dyslexic, and although I have developed the skills to be an efficiently fast reader and a clear writer, I admit I sometimes have doubts on whether I can do this homeschooling thing. I wondered if anyone on the boards has "been there, done that" and had any tips for me on homeschooling while dyslexic? My sons are both already aware that I am dyslexic and what that means (in a general way). They know that is why I use GPS when I drive, even in town- because if I don't I guarantee you I will get lost. They know that sometimes I will pronounce things "funny". I haven't had any real issues yet, but my kids are young. I'm especially worried about math, as I still consistently switch numbers. And about my 3 yr old, as he's already showing signs of dyslexia...it might be the blind leading the blind with that one!! The only "cheat" I've used so far is that I've taught my oldest son to write in cursive first. It is what I've always exclusively written in, and it prevents him from making reversals or me from having to catch them. I will teach him to print later. Teaching reading hasn't been too bad, even though I was taught "whole word" speed reading and I am teaching him phonetically. If 3yr old ends up also dyslexic I may teach him whole world as well.
