Chrysalis Academy
Can some one help me figure out what Ellen McHenry's The Elements covers? I know it covers elements and the periodic table, but does it also cover stuff like chemical bonding, atomic architecture, etc.? Is there any math in it? What age/grade did you use it? Thanks! Crimson Wife
There is very limited math in it. It covers atomic structure including some fairly sophisticated concepts that I didn't see until high school like the various orbitals. It also talks about ionic and covalent bonding. It is meaty yet accessible to young students.
swainsonshawk
I am using it alongside Mr. Q's elementary chemistry for my co-op group of 10-13 year olds. It is a GREAT program. I really prefer The Elements over Mr. Q. Mr. Q provides more vocabulary and more worksheets reviewing the vocab the layout is more traditional and organized, but The Elements is really fun and reachable for the kids.
