Kirch
For anyone who has read this--would you recommend it as a read-aloud for boys 6 (almost 7) and 8? For reference, we've read Black Ships before Troy. Our library doesn't have it & I'd kind of like some input before I order it.
dhudson
I would wait until they are 10 or 11. It is a step up from Black Ships Before Troy.
oldskool
We just finished this as our read aloud and loved it, but I would not do this with younger ones. The vocabulary is difficult and it is full, full, full of metaphors and similes. Before middle school I feel it may be too hard to follow the long passages. Are you looking for something from a specific time period? If not I would recommend The Sign of the Beaver or Johnny Tremain.
Kirch
That's what I needed to know, thanks! We'll save it for next time around. :)
twoxcell
I was wondering about this book too. What age would you guys recommend it for a boy to read on his own?
5wolfcubs
I love this book! Love-love-love! Just seeing the title makes me smile! :) I was wondering about this book too. Older...12 maybe, for the reasons below: We just finished this as our read aloud and loved it, but I would not do this with younger ones. twoxcell
Thanks, I think my ds would love the series. Maybe I will buy it soon so I can read them first and then save them for Jr. High.
