Any information if you used this will be helpful. I'm driving my self crazy trying to figure out which one I should get. Thanks ladies , I appreciate your comments. historically accurate Posted January 26, 2013 Share Posted January 26, 2013 I haven't used Horizons, and my youngest is only in McRuffy Phonics Kindergarten. So I haven't really looked closely at the upper levels of McRuffy. But I do use their math, which is a very tight spiral. In looking at their samples of LA, I don't believe that McRuffy useds a mastery approach in LA either. I am pretty sure that Horizons is a spiral approach as well. My 5yr old is able to read the rule on the top of the page and complete the lesson by himself. He loves doing his phonics. It goes pretty fast but there is tons of review.
