mommybee
Do you use any of the apps that offer this? If so which one would you recommend and is it really necessary? New to android and looking for lots of fun and useful apps, but I also keep worrying about losing it with so much info on it.
HejKatt
I use Lookout - it covers virus scanning, and supposedly theft. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout There have been threads tagged android, if you want to find more apps. nmoira
If you haven't already, add 2 step verification to your Google account and install Authenticator. http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1066447 Next, make sure your phone's lock screen is passworded. Unless you're using them, turn off NFC and Bluetooth. Don't make financial transactions or log into a site while on free Wifi (you can turn off WiFi and log in via 3g/LTE), as many of these connections can be sniffed. I don't have an antivirus app, but I generally only install apps with 10,000+ downloads and I always check permissions before installing. I've tried Lookout, but I didn't appreciate the performance hit. As for lost phone/anti-theft, Avast is supposed to be very good (last I checked, it would not work on phones with Verizon remote diagnostics installed, as I have). I like Cerberus, but there are others.

Oh yeah I've look at those and have used many of the suggestions, I just didn't see any mention of security on them.

I kept hearing how you could remote lock your phone if it was stolen but every app seemed to be a drain on the phones system like you mentioned. Verizon installed their remote diagnostics app with the JellyBean update to my phone. It allows them to troubleshoot remotely should you have an issue, and it can't be disabled. I have not heard about any snooping by Verizon, but I'm glad there are plenty of vigilant people keeping an eye out.
nmoira
I kept turning of the antivirus part of Lookout, but it kept turning back on, so I dropped it.
