Alexigail Posted December 27, 2012 Share Posted December 27, 2012 We've finally made the decision to homeschool for a variety of reasons and my son is really excited to be done with school. I feel like since he's on winter break it's a good time to withdraw him. But I'm not sure how to do it. He is not of compulsory age yet, so I know that there won't be any legal issues. However, I want to do things "right" so that I can avoid any issues with the district. Who do I need to notify and how do I go about it? NotSoObvious Posted December 27, 2012 Share Posted December 27, 2012 Legal issues aside, I'd just call the school when they open and let them know you've decided to homeschool. Ask them what they would like you to do. I'm sure your son's teacher will have things for him and she'll want to say good bye, if appropriate. I always find people are kinder when I ask them what they would like me to do, rather than being super assertive and aggressive. Be sure to operate within the law. Your ds has been in school, so he is on the grid so to speak. You don't want him to be reported as truant. Ruby Rose Posted December 27, 2012 Share Posted December 27, 2012 In our state, regardless of compulsory age, once they have been enrolled in school they are treated as though they are of that age.
