If you want more depth, it is a great framework to start with. My 7th grader is using it, most of the recommended books, books from Beautiful Feet, Sonlight, and mom. We are spreading it all out over 7th and 8th. My younger two are doing the same time period, so many of our family read alouds are also related. Plus we do a few projects here and there. All of this is not necessary, I am just accustomed to a literature based program. Also, I wanted to take two years for Am. history. ATB is great. I am reading it myself. I learn a lot, but it is a broad survey of history. There are some very interesting tidbits of information that I haven't found in other books. The pictures are beautiful.
