Plaid Dad
if you're a botany buff, you can visit a Smith College Botanic Garden web cam trained on a Titan Arum that is about to bloom. The Titan Arum is also known as the "Corpse Flower" because of the... unusual scent of its blossom. It only blooms once every three to five years. (It's in a natural light greenhouse, so you may not be able to see it until East Coast daylight hours. It looks like a really big Jack-in-the-Pulpit.) This local pride moment brought to you by the Ãœber-Geeky Classical Homeschoolers of Western Massachusetts. :D
Michelle in MO
think, in one of our Usborne books. If it's the same one that I read described, its odor smells like rotting meat! Whew! Are you planning on seeing (and smelling) it?? Definitely bring a camera, if it's allowed! Uber-geekiness allowed! (Sorry--can't find the umlaut!) Plaid Dad
I'm not sure I could handle the smell up close and personal, so I'm grateful for the webcam. We will be in the area on Monday, though, so if it happens to bloom then, we may stop by just to say we saw it...from a distance! :D
Alenee
I tried to get all Uber-geeky with you here but all I see is a dark screen with red spots that's continually updating itself. I guess I'm just not as big a geek as you...:D;)
