Laptop suggestions?

Any suggestions for a basic laptop computer? I'm not looking for something super high-tech. I want to access the internet, plan school (via lists, spreadsheets, etc.), be able to pull up pdf's from CDs...and not spend an arm and a leg. :)

:bigear: I'm about to take on a very p/t job, but I can't use the software on my trusty Mac. I've had such bad experiences with Dells in the past, I don't really want another one, but I don't know where to go from there! I'd love to hear some recommendations.

I went and ordered mine this week. I splurged on the Ideapad Y580 with the better screen resolution (recommended by my son since "You edit photos Mom, might be nice to see what it is you're doing to them...". :tongue_smilie:

 

This one looks awfully snazzy for $500 -- and it has a spill resistant keyboard. Sounds like the kind of computer that can safely hang out in the kitchen.
