charlotteb
I am considering signing DD up for The Duke Talent Search program for 7th graders. She scored in the high ninety's in almost every subject in her CAT Test next year. Has anyone here had a child in this program? Is it worth it? Any opinions either way? Thanks! Dana
7th graders take the SAT or ACT and are compared against others taking the tests. Scores generally won't be retained for high school, so no harm in taking it. There are courses available for high enough scores though Johns Hopkins talent search, CTY, or Northwestern, NUMATS. I don't know if they require registration through them or if they would accept scores from Duke's search. The talent searches can be good experiences. angela in ohio
We didn't do Duke, but we did Northwestern, which is the talent search for our region. I found it really helpful. Taking grade level tests, as you have seen, was no help at all. Taking radically out-of-level tests started to allow us to see strengths and wekanesses. They also gave me the courage to accelerate and not feel tied to the usual path. :001_smile: Try it once, you really don't have anything to lose. LNC
The state and national award ceremonies are inspiring and motivating. Especially for homeschooled students who don't often receive academic awards like their peers in school.
