Renee in NC
I am overall happy with the experience and my dc's teachers. My 1st grader has no teacher yet, but the reading specialist will be teaching it until they find another teacher (which shouldn't be long - the class was just added this past week, so they are in the interviewing process.) My 3rd graders both have teachers new to the school. My 9yo's teacher is in her first year of teaching, and she seems really sweet. I think she is going to have a rough year with my ds, but only because of his LDs. We made sure he fit in the desk (he is 5 feet tall, so this can be an issue.) The 8yo's teacher is also new to the school, but she has been teaching for 9 years. This child would do well just about anywhere, so I generally don't worry about her. Hopefully, we can get her into the AG program this year. My 5th grader's teacher was really friendly and upbeat with him. I hope she is nice to him - he has such a bad experience with the teacher in FL that he has a general distaste for school (not schoolwork, just institutional school.) I briefly discussed his needs with her, and mentioned that while his reading has come a long way, he still struggles with writing. She smiled and said, "Don't worry - most of the boys struggle with writing at this age." It made him happy as he doesn't like to feel "different." We were having bus issues, and the person giving out the info hunted down the bus driver for us, so we could speak directly with her. She was very helpful, told me what to do to get a waiver so they could get off the bus alone, and mentally added us to her route (which was 2 miles away at the closest existing point.) The only negative was the fact that neither of my ds' teachers had their IEPs. I haven't been able to get the EC coordinator to respond to me after my initial phone call. I am going to request an IEP meeting in writing so we can at least force a meeting within 30 days. It isn't a huge deal as my 11yo doesn't really need remediation anymore, and very few accommodations. The 9yo's teacher was open to what he needed, so hopefully she will accommodate him until we get the IEP stuff straightened out. Overall, I have been impressed with the school, from the office staff to the bus driver!:D

ChrissySC
There are always a few things along the way. I'm glad everything went so well. :) We had open house on Wednesday. It was chaos! LOL, but so much fun.
