SilverMoon
You might check out the Boy Scout merit badge book for some ideas and instructions. You don't need a membership to buy it, and many public libraries carry the whole series.
jar7709
Chain mail, starting with simple stuff like bracelets? I have a bil who was into it for a while, he said if you can hook up with Ren-faire types or find those websites, the materials & instructions are not too difficult to obtain. Lots of little metal links, tools are on the simpler side link pliers and snips.
angela in ohio
My little guy does tin punching. Soldering is more accessible than welding, so that might be a good place to start. All three of my dc solder, and no one has been hurt yet. :D
