ElisabethGrace
Can anyone tell me if there are differences between the British and American versions of the Harry Potter books? I'm interested in buying a set for my teenager. Thanks for any help!
Amy in Orlando
Here's a great link - the differences are not great, imo. http://home.comcast.net/~helenajole/Harry.html

JFSinIL
Here's a great link - the differences are not great, imo. http://home.comcast.net/~helenajole/Harry.html Ah, you bet me to sharing this. Some of the changes - heck, most of them - look to be choices made by an American vs. a British copy editor. I think buying British (as my s-i-l does0 and assuming it is "better" is simply SNOBBISH. I still wonder, though - if the girls are witches, why aren't the boys warlocks instead of wizards?

It seems silly to me to read a book set in another country and not use their terms. Spelling and punctuation changes I can handle, but, if there's anything beyond that, I try to purchase another edition. :)
