Anyone know of a WWI *living* book?

We are studying WWI and while the two fact-oriented books we read (one is the DK Eyewitness) were interesting, I'd really like to find something engaging to read aloud for this time period.

I checked my Truthquest manual but none of the listings are available at our library.

Any ideas? Fiction or non-fiction would be okay as long as it's not too long or considered twaddle.

TIA!

The Good Master and The Singing Tree by Kate Seredy

The Good Master is set just before WWI. WWI rages all through The Singing Tree. You don't get any battlefield action in the book. The whole story is set on the homefront. These books would be fine as readalouds for all three of your kids. The 2nd book was a lot more interesting for us than the first one.
