What cycle will CC be on for the fall of 2012?

 

I'm going to an information meeting tonight and trying to read up so that I am not totally lost.

 

Also, has anyone started CC when their child was in upper elementary? My son will be in 5th grade in the fall.

Cycle 1...I am starting with. K4 child. I am planning on going to one of the 1 day practicums to get "up to speed". Have you registered? Spots fill up in some areas really quickly. You may also see if your area CC has a yahoo group that you can join. I signed up so that I can go to some of the social events over the summer to meet some of the moms and learn more before school starts. The items for foundations and essentials are on the site's bookstore for CC. You may also want to purchase the audio CDs to play in the car.

They will be on Cycle 1, Ancients.

 

We just completed our second year and our son is 10yo and in 4th grade. If you have been working on memorizing the grammar of math, history, science, etc. CC will back that effort. If not, he will have the experience of learning how to retain info.

 

This year we added the afternoon Essentials program. There they cover grammar, IEW writing, and play math games.

Jim, you answered another question I had as well: when do they start Essentials. A friend had said sixth grade, but she's new to CC as well so she's learning with me.

 

Learning to retain info - training the brain: that's the primary reason I'm considering CC. We haven't done nearly enough in that regard.
