...................
We have worked all the way up to 3 paragraphs but they were overwhelming to my son, so today I only assigned him a one paragraph descriptive composition. I thought it turned out well. "In my mind's eye I see an eight foot tall robot hunched like a preying mantis. One square hydraulic arm has a drill instead of a hand. On the other arm there is a shovel-like hand. Perched below the shoulders, the head has one visor-like camera. This robot is dirty, dented and slightly rusty. Some day I would like to build this robot." What do you think?

KirstenH
I agree. I think that turned out great. I could totally picture the robot.
happyhomemaker
I thought he gave good, specific details that were enough to get the overall picture, but not too much as to be overwhelming or confusing. He seems to have a good command of language, spelling, grammar, and overall paragraph structure. A job well done :001_smile:
...................
OK, great. I'm going to keep our book of graphic organizers for him to use in the future, because he really loves that method. He loves being able to look through them and choose the one that he thinks will work for each composition. I know that later on, one would not to be using a graphic organizer in late middle school and high school, but I think it's ok for now. :o)
