I need to find a reliable, gas friendly sedan for about $3k plus a trade in worth about $500. I am going to do the "upgraded beater" program, shown by Dave Ramsey. Buy a beater, save what would have been a monthly payment. Trade in earlier beater and saved cash for another car, repeat. I'll have to alternate vehicles (my van has 120K miles and the one we are trading in has more than that). We are terribly upside down in the van, and I hope to trade up again in 18 months when we pay it off, and I have save a payment each month. We are thinking of selling off my car and getting the money back and purchasing a cash car. Haha that sounds like a car that I would get cash by driving. I would like that.
