Beth in SW WA
I confess. I'm jealous. This school looks fabulous. I've been reading through the HTH school websites. Some of these videos and projects look awesome. Here is another page of projects. Wow. Just wow. LEARNING at High Tech Elementary is rooted in project-based learning. This means that our faculty guides our students through the creation of projects designed to develop their understandings of the world around them... Today I am trying one of the projects. My girls are going to make a video presentation on atoms & molecules. Seems more intriguing than another science narration or workbook page. Does anyone else get a twinge of panic or jealousy when they see ps kids doing amazingly wonderful, non-busy-work, stimulating and fantastic projects? I do. How do I think outside-the-box and jazz things up a bit around here? Thoughts? ETA: Here's a neat project from the 6th graders at HTMiddle School on The Number Devil. Beth in SW WA
Thanks, HH. I'll continue with our robotics classes for now at our local science center. This morning my girls were the only ones who came prepared to class having already figured out the 'challenge' for this week. They worked together this weekend for hours to figure it out. Pics here if anyone is interested. I am looking to outsource science so they have more exposure to hands-on experiments and inquiry-led activities (whatever that is:tongue_smilie:) taught by a science expert (of which I am not). I would love to incorporate more creativity into our day. The girls enjoyed the videos they made yesterday. They want to do a mock newscast of the stuff they are learning. I would to hear how others incorporate PBL. Thanks!!!
