pocjets
Can anyone compare these two programs? This is for next year for my 2nd grader. Thanks so much
kolamum
I might be wrong, and if I am I hope someone sets the record straight.. but I do believe with SL the readers are just that.. readers. The parents get some questions to ask to be sure the child is reading the book and not just flipping pages, etc. ;) You can get a LA course to go with it if desired. Now, if you're going for the straight up 2nd Grader Readers they may or may not tie into a core. ;) The DITHOR readers seem to have a bit more in depth "stuff" to go with them. But I only know about DITHOR from what I've seen in their samples. I was looking at it recently, and wondering about this very thing. I liked some of the more Biblical comparisons I spotted in regards to readers, but I wasn't sure it was worth the price when I've all ready got SL, kwim? lorrainejmc
DITHOR was my "big expensive mistake" of the year. We just couldn't relate the generic workbook pages to the book we had chosen. We didn't finish even one unit. My dd is 4th grade. Now I just have her read aloud to me from our chosen books. She gets enough reading comprehension through WWE. If I was buying readers for a 2nd grader, I would go with something like Sonlight, or even just choose books from their list without the questions/schedule.
