MouseBandit
I am wondering if there is some type of membership-based online "library" for books - picture books specifically. Sort of like the online blockbuster video plan. I could pick out books online (have 2 or 3 out at any given time) and they get mailed to me and I mail them back when I'm done. Just a hope - we're a long ways out in the boonies here and getting all the kids to the library by myself would be quite an adventure at this point, ha ha! Thanks! Wabi Sabi
I don't know of anyone online lending library such as you're describing, but you might look into what services are available through your public library. Our library has their online catalog where you can browse, select books from home, and have them held for you. You can even select to pick them up from a drive-up window so there's no need to try to chase several toddlers through the stacks while looking for books on the shelves, LOL. They'll hold the books for seven days to allow you time to get there to get them. If your library has something similar perhaps you could schedule a weekly trip into town to pick up books while running your other errands? Another option at our library is to reserve books and have them delivered via the Bookmobile. The Bookmobile does not come directly to your door, but they visit various rural locations on a schedule. That might be closer and easier for you. I do realize that not all libraries offer the same services, but it's at least worth looking into exactly what is available from your branch. Good luck! pitterpatter
There are a couple of snail mail NetFlix-type programs, but I haven't been impressed with the pricing, as I feel like I can at least buy used and keep the books/re-sell for the price. I'll try to dig up those links. ETA: I think these are the ones I was thinking of. http://www.bookpig.com/Default.aspx - Found this on RetailMeNot (http://www.retailmenot.com/view/bookpig.com). http://www.bookswim.com/index.html Google "Netflix" and "childrens books" or "rent" and "childrens books" Edited January 6, 2012 by pitterpatter
