...................
My ds has great cursive but tends to choose manuscript on his own. However, because we dropped all manuscript in 1st grade (due to extreme letter reversals) his manuscript looks frightful- embarrassingly babyish. I've talked and talked "till I'm blue in the face" about why he should always write in cursive but it's not working. At Sunday School, AwAnA, and everywhere else he "forgets" and writes in manuscript. It looks like a first grader's manuscript (not surprisingly) So if that's the choice he is making, I'm going to need to teach him better manuscript. He's almost 10 now so something at the 4th or 5th grade level would be best.
morosophe
Have you considered going all out and getting him a calligraphy set? Or what about Getty-Dubay, which is apparently a somewhat similar concept? He might take pride in his letter formation, then. Just a thought! Momling
Handwriting without tears has a book called "Can-Do Print". It's aimed at older kids. Along with focusing on letter formation, it includes some grammar review too!
...................
I got the can do print! It looks perfect. My son is artsy but the situations in which he uses manuscript tend to be in busy places where time is of the essence. (which is weird because his cursive is very fast and very legible.)....shaking my head.
littlebug42
My 10 year old daughter has horrible handwriting. We are now working on Getty-Dubay italics and she finds it much easier. Her handwriting is finally starting to improve.
