ereks mom
Please suggest some Christmas-themed songs, stories, poems, plays, movies etc. that were written during (or about) the Elizabethan period. I also need some easy recipes for foods (preferably breads or baked goods) that were popular during this period. Thanks! ETA: Maybe I should have said the Tudor period, since that's a bit broader than the Elizabethan period only. Sebastian (a lady)
Wasn't Twelfth Night written to perform at the end of the Christmas holidays? You might also look up Medieval Mystery Plays. They would predate the Elizabethan era, but probably have still been performed. The Second Shepherds Play is one I remember fondly.

EK is currently involved in a production of Twelfth Night, and she is loving it!
Jean in Newcastle
Here is a nice site that talks about an Elizabethan Christmas feast. http://www.elizabethfiles.com/an-elizabethan-christmas/3414/ It looks like mince pies and tarts would be baked goods from that time. EmilyK
If you can attend a Revels that would be great. We are seeing one based on medieval England this year.
