Christine
I would love to "reteach" myself piano. I used to play when I was younger and am told I was very good. (Everybody told me that at the time, but I had a serious inferiority complex and never felt good about it.) I do know I advanced beyond the skills of 3 different teachers, and my mother was having major difficulty finding a 4th. . . It's been about 20 years since. My MIL recently gifted us with a player piano (doesn't have a full size keyboard, family "heirloom"), but I would like to "reteach" myself. Any suggestions as to how best to go about this? (Of course, I could just cheat and put in the payer rolls.)
elegantlion
Do you have any of the sheet music from your childhood? I found that quite helpful. Depending on the piece it didn't take long before I was playing again. I think you'll be amazed at how much you have retained, once you get in some practice. MomOfOneFunOne
I was in (almost) the same situation. I really wanted to play the piano but life just kept getting in the way. Finally, I decided to start taking lessons again. Somehow, paying for the lessons and having outside accountability kept me at the piano whereas, without that, life kept me away. I love my lessons and playing for my family!
