FairProspects
If money is tight, can I put off buying the bucket balance a bit? Is it used right away, or somewhere in the middle of the book? I already own most of the other manipulatives and I was able to get the TM for free. Thanks!
Jay3fer
We don't use Saxon, so no answer there (and I have a bucket balance from Rainbow which I love), but in the meantime, here are two you can make at home with recyclables. It's a pretty simple principle. The hanging-hanger one looks easiest to me. ETA: Rainbow has 4 of our bucket balance on sale for only $8 (plus shipping, of course). But it would still be fun to build your own. Also, I don't know if you need a specific one for saxon. HTH!
ALB
IMO, I would put off buying it. I bought the whole inclusive kit, but was so confused because it seemed like we never used the bucket balance. I can't even remember one lesson that used it until we got to Saxon 1, but I could totally be wrong. Even in Saxon 1, I think we've only used it once and we're 3/4 of the way through the book. Five More Minutes
I don't think you use it until Gr. 1, and then only a few times. You can do without it.
