Xpost: books about missionaries: junior high/high school reading level

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We've found several good books that my now 8th grader has enjoyed reading, but I've run out of titles. Can anyone suggest others? We've read:

At the Edge of the Village (Leidenfrost)

Walking His Trail (Saint)

God Smuggler (Sherrill)

Blessed Are the Poor (Calhoun)

and several of the YWAM Christian Heroes Then and Now and Heroes of the Faith books

She loves books written by actual missionaries about their experiences. She reads at a high school-adult level. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Julie

http://www.amazon.com/Evidence-Not-Seen-Miraculous-Jungles/dp/0060670207 Start with one like this and follow all the other book suggestions on amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Borden-Yale-Faith-Howard-Taylor/dp/1556610149 This one is particularly good, and then you can look for more in the Men of Faith and Women of Faith series.

http://www.amazon.com/Hudson-Taylors-Spiritual-Secret-Classics/dp/0802456588/ref=pd_sim_b_11 You'll find this as you click the related links on amazon, but I'll link you to it anyway. This is the shorter one, quite good, and then there's a 2 volume work she can read later.

And here's something totally different. http://www.amazon.com/Persecutor-Sergei-Kourdakov/dp/B000MGI2DY/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314638294&sr=1-1

Or even more different. Any books by him or his daughter Natasha Vins plus his poetry. http://www.amazon.com/Gospel-Bonds-Autobiographical-Courageous-AUTOGRAPHED/dp/B004YQTO1W/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314638408&sr=1-7 Here's the one by Natasha. http://www.amazon.com/Children-Storm-Autobiography-Natasha-Vins/dp/1579248543/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314638503&sr=1-1 It's INCREDIBLY good, even if the reading level looks a little low. She'll love it.

BTW, that book "The Persecutor" is the reason I learned Russian. You never know what a book will do for someone. It's good to read about christians in lots of countries and see what happens. :)

Did you catch this thread?

Lots of good reads there.

I also have enjoyed every missions book that is used by MFW, including their ECC 7-8th grade supplement books and their high school books, as well as lots of the YWAM biographies in the elementary years:

And really YWAM publishing is great:

And if you need more, there are some interesting reads at Voice of the Martyrs:
