LaMere Academy
I just bought this for my dd 11th grade. How did your high schooler like it? Did anyone skip some of the literature? I'm thinking of skipping The Scarlet Letter and Uncle Tom's Cabin.
*~Tina~*
We are doing Notgrass world history and being selective with the reading - both taking away and adding. I was told the literature selections are not tied in to the curriculum per se, so skipping some selections should be fine.

I think I'll be doing the same, adding in some other books I want her to read.
PeterPan
Well I have no comment on Notgrass, but even as a history-hater I really enjoyed UT Cabin. The trick is to skip to the middle and read from there. It's really quite interesting and enjoyable once you get into it. You could do something similar with The Scarlett Letter, just letting her read it and not worrying about discussion, etc. The point of these works is obvious, so she could just read and enjoy them, take what she wants, and move on. In any case, I was ho-hum about about the Scarlett Letter, but UT Cabin I really liked. It has a lot more humor than you'd expect and goes quickly once you skip the intro and the thickest of the dialect stuff.
*~Tina~*
We are going to utilize The Great American Bathroom Book for some we won't actually read. Gives summaries, main details. Available on Amazon :D
MommyThrice
We used this in 9th. We thought the text was a little dry, but I felt all of it was necessary. We did skip much of the lit, but I added in WAY more than I skipped. FWIW, I thought Uncle Tom's Cabin was a really good book. I wouldn't skip it. My biggest complaint with Notgrass is that the quizzes are way too picky... too detail-oriented and not enough big-picture. I relied more on discussions with ds than his quiz scores.
