Just to clarify about SOTW...

Recommended Posts

We went of course from SOTW for a few years after finishing book 4. Now DS in entering the 7th grade and we will be going back to it. We should be reading book 3 correct? And doing weekly summary write-ups? Am I missing anything? Oh, we will be doing historical readings as well.

Well, if you've done SOTW before, you wouldn't use it again. You would use other materials as you go through the history cycle.

What did you do for history for 5th and 6th grades?

The idea with WTM is that you work your way through a chronological study of world history three times -- in grades 1-4, 5-8, and 9-12. But that's only the ideal. If you've gotten off track, you might find yourself starting "ancients" in 7th grade or doing a condensed two-year study of world history or any of a number of other approaches. The idea though is that kids get several cycles of working through history in chronological order.

If you've done a little of this and a little of that for two years, you wouldn't just jump back in around 1600 and go from there.

And you wouldn't use SOTW again a second time through. It can be adapted for 5th-8th grades if you haven't used it before. But if you have, it's time to move on to more challenging texts.
