HootyTooty
I thought I bookmarked a post about scheduling but I can't find it. I would like to have this last 2 years like the book suggests. We are using Hake's grammar portion as well as the Kilgallon Sentence Composing. Any suggestions?
Lori D.
Jump In schedules 2 years by having the student complete a unit (I believe there are 13 or 14 units), and then has the student take a few weeks to do free writing from the prompts in the teacher guide. (The teacher guide has a check list of assignments on pages 7-8 which would be helpful for scheduling.) You could still spread Jump Out out over 2 years by dropping the free writing from prompts (frankly, IMO, that was the one weak area of the program: there wasn't much variety in the prompts, and the few they had were pretty lame) -- and substitute a section of the Kilgallon and/or the Hake's. Also, if you're doing Jump In over 2 years, consider doing it out of order: in the first year do the units on Opinions; Persuasion, Narration, and Poetry; and in the second year do all the Exposition units -- those tend to have the longer assignments (reports and essays), which would make more sense to do those later if you did a lot of the Kilgallon sentences in the first year. Just a thought! Hope it works well for you, whatever you decide. Warmest regards, Lori D. Edited August 19, 2011 by Lori D.
