sahm99
Those of you who have used online courses in the past, would you mind sharing your experiences?:) I am tempted for the first time, and find it astonishingly difficult to get information about the quality of courses... I am interested in all grades, and subjects, as I would like to get a general impression about the strengths and weaknesses of the different suppliers. Thank you so much!!!
Chris in VA
We used Write@Home's Essay I class for my son when he was, I think, a Jr in High School. I needed some hand-holding in teaching writing; we had tried a couple of programs and I just found it difficult to edit his writing and teach him how to compose. The Essay I class basically consisted of him working on 2 essays, pretty much 5 paragraph style--slightly more complicated than that, but not much. The Lively Art of Writing was a sort of "spine." He'd go back and forth between essays, getting comments on one while working on the other. The first assignment was just to think of a good thesis statement--not exactly a week's worth of work. It was light, but it did teach him some basics. Not worth the $, imo, but that's all the help I had, and he did accomplish two nice essays and got some structure down. I found the commentary very helpful, and he was not intimidated by the semester course. I might use them for their English course for dd when she's in 7th.
