mommaduck
Would these two items take the place of spelling?
Karen in TN
Not really. They are word root, vocabulary builders. While you could have your kids learn how to spell the words also, it would not be a systematic way to teach spelling. And as far as vocabulary goes, I used Vocab from Classical Roots with my 11 yo and didn't care for it. I don't think they get enough practice using each of the words, and some of the words seemed rather obscure to me. We're going to try something else out for a while. mommaduck
May I ask what you are going to use?
Karen in TN
I picked up a couple of books called Vocabulary Energizers by David Popkin. They look a whole lot more interesting - we'll see how they go over with the kiddo! If I didn't have these I would probably try out the Wordly Wise series. linders
I'm using EFTRU (cards only) as a vocabulary-building element for my DS7 next year (in lieu of any other vocab program). We will continue to use Spelling Workout for spelling, and FLL (modified) for other grammar elements. I do think EFTRU will be a help for spelling, but won't address the "Anglization" (is there such a word?) of the Latin and Greek.
