Kareni
My daughter read both The Ramsay Scallop and A Parcel of Patterns in 8th grade. As I recall, she enjoyed them both but I believe she preferred A Parcel of Patterns. Regards, Kareni
ABQmom
Has anyone read: 1. A Parcel of Patterns A well written, moving book. The best of the four, imho. 2. The Ramsey Scallop Meh. It was okay - not one I've chosen for our home, but I didn't *mind* reading it. 3. Flame Over Tara Blech. I *love* most of Polland's children's historical fiction, but there are a few that are utterly dreadful, that completely lack her usual delicate touch, understatement, and decent research. This is the last book of hers I would use... well, I wouldn't use this one at all. I think its subject matter is the only reason it is is getting attention these days. 4. Master Cornhill I like this one very much. A nicely told little story, with period details and an engaging narrative arc. But I wouldn't use *any* of these with a high school student. I consider these upper-elementary/middle school books... and none of them are ones I would use specifically for "school". They are entertainment reading, imho. Thank you! I have younger kids whom I might use some of these for then. Thanks so much for your opinion!
