Guest homeschoolerconfessions
Hi, I recommend The Write Shop. I'm doing a giveaway today on my blog http://confessionsofahomeschooler.blogspot.com/2011/05/write-shop-primary-review-giveaway.html. There are links on my blog post to help you pick which level to start with and get more information. PeterPan
For 2nd grade? Oral and written narration are where it's at. That way they have the content in their head and just need to spit it out in a logical, coherent order. WWE walks you through different types of retelling (chronological, spatial, etc.), so it would be an age-appropriate, straightforward resource for you. Once your dc can comfortably write his own narration (of a book, of something you read him, of his science reading, etc.), then he's ready for a traditional writing program. But really, WWE and working on narration would get you where you need to be at this age. Also many reading comprehension curricula (which WTM doesn't recommend but which many use) will have ordering exercises. I know the BJU does. They'll read a story and then be given a list of 10-12 items from the plot to put in order, extraneous details to mark out, that type thing. So you can find it both in writing curricula and reading curricula.
