EmilyGF
I have a 6-year-old son with whom I'm using SWR. I sometimes think it is a waste. It is a strong and thorough program, but he doesn't seem to need that much help in spelling. For example, when we spelled, "to", he said, "but there are also words that sound like that spelled t-o-o and t-w-o." It is like I'm using a hammer to put a thumbtack in a cork board. He has exceptionally strong fine motor skills. I'd sort of like a mainly independent workbook based program that I can have him use when I'm cleaning up the kitchen (!) or tutoring his little sister in phonics. Right now, I give him a math workbook, but I'd rather do more math games and less spelling dictation! Thanks, Emily
Tracy
Have you given him a diagnostic test? It sounds like maybe he has to be bumped up to a more challenging list.
EmilyGF
Any other suggestions? Part of it is that spelling takes so much direct instruction time the SWR way. I'm wondering if anyone recommends something where I can see the issues and address them, but he could work more on his own.
