scrapbookbuzz
SL USERS: Is anyone else Commodore Perry (Core 5) as slow, dry and boring as we are? I thought it would be so nice to read it aloud to my kiddos as they worked on lapbook/notebooking pages. However, both of them are less than enthused about the story and I must admit, I can't get into it, either! Anyone else BTDT? scrapbookbuzz
Maybe the fact that no one has answered IS my answer! :D Think I'll be scratching that book off our list and moving onto something else!
mcconnellboys
We read "from" it, but have never read the whole thing. It is dry! Here's a website with some shorter info and even some lesson plan stuff if you want something different: http://www.history.navy.mil/library/special/perry_openjapan1.htm There's a simpler, picture book entitled: Manjiro: The Boy who Risked his Life for Two Countries, Emily McCully. It's about a boy who played an important role in the opening of Japan (true story). This is a simpler version of the same story told in the book: Shipwrecked! Rhoda Blumberg. That is a longer book that might perhaps suit you better (if you haven't already read it).
